Landscape of Food

Greek Immigrants have shaped the landscape of food in Birmingham through their appreciation of great ingredients and flavor as well as their business prowess. Nick Pihakis started his career driving produce routes in Birmingham and working through the stations at restaurants run by Greek immigrants where he fell in love with the restaurant business. Nick, the direct descendant of Greek immigrants himself started Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q with his father, Jim in 1985 and grew the chain to over 41 restaurants in 7 states before selling the business in 2015. Nick’s passion for growing generational businesses that create opportunities for growth and stability led him to start The Pihakis Restaurant Group in 2017. Little Donkey Mexican Restaurant, Rodney Scott’s BBQ, Hero Doughnuts and Buns and Hot Dog Pete’s are all part of the group and enjoying strong success but Nick always wanted to explore his family roots and present the bright, fresh and healthy food of Greece to Birmingham in a new way.

A taste of the mediterranean

The Pihakis Restaurant Group is happy to introduce Tasty Town Greek Restaurant and Lounge to Birmingham with an anticipated opening late Spring of 2022. Located on the SW end of Railroad Park in downtown Birmingham, Tasty Town Restaurant and Lounge will offer fresh, Greek fare daily for lunch and dinner. With an emphasis on seasonal, traditional and Southern ingredients and techniques, small plates and entrees that feature souvlaki grilled over live fire, fresh seafood, bright vegetables and traditional dips with fresh baked pita bread will be served. A large, lively bar will welcome guests with classic and custom cocktails, non-alcoholic libations and beer and wine that can also be enjoyed in our lounge area and patio seating. The menu is the culmination of recipe research and development by our culinary team led by Executive Chef Paul Yeck, Nick Pihakis, Chef Rita Bernardt, David Atkins and Tasty Town Chef de Cuisine Mike Wilson.
